Hertfordshire has some of the most interesting chalk geology in the United Kingdom. The sites we oversee are shown on the map below and are categorised as either Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Sites (RIGS), Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) or Biological SSSIs with Earth Science Interest.
You can find brief information on all these sites using the map below. Fuller details are given on the RIGS and SSSI pages.
How to use this map
- Click on any of the map icons to find out more about a particular site.
- Access the complete list of sites by clicking on at the left of the map heading.
- Toggle complete categories on and off by checking/unchecking category headings in the list.
- Zoom in or out using the +/– in the bottom left hand corner of the map.
